Eco Printing, Solar & Cyanotype Printing
This gallery is full of experimentation with eco-printing & Solarfast printing. I encourage guests to click on the images as they often have tips, tricks, & how-to information with them.

Eco Printing is a technique that takes advantage of the naturally occurring tannic acids and pigments in plants to create the imprint by using heat, moisture, and pressure to transfer the image to a natural paper or fabric. It is only partially controllable and the results are often unexpected.

Solar printing uses the UV radiation from the sun, in combination with a chemical liquid and a resist to create a negative image on paper or fabric. These include cyanotype (blue and white) as well as inkodyes like Solarfast mediums from Jacquard that comes in a variety of colors. The images created can be stark or ghost like in appearance depending on the resist used and exposure time.

I often look at these techniques as a means to an end to create textile prints that can be used in other larger projects but they can be viewed as art prints in their own right.
