UPCOMING CLASSES
In this fun and no-experience needed workshop we will use the natural materials found around the island to create a series of solar and eco prints on silk and cotton. Solar printing creates colorful negative prints while eco-printing takes advantage of the natural pigments found in the plant materials, we will use to create an imprint of the plant. Using natural colors from a specific time and location preserves a memory of that moment that cannot be replicated even if you return to the same place at the same time another year. On the last day students have the option of creating a patchwork fabric or a set of prayer flags from the fabric prints they have made in the workshop.
This class is an annual event at New England Botanic Garden (held along with Ukrainian Pysanky Eggs) each spring before Easter. This class focuses on food safe dyes and stains.

Natural dyeing classes are offered quarterly at New England Botanic Garden. Each class focuses on established dyes, best practices, with a make and take project.

Eco printing is a mixture of pressing fresh flowers and dyeing. By pressing fresh flowers between fabric or paper and applying moisture and heat can create a ghostly print. Solar printing uses modern textile chemicals to create a negative print on paper or fabric. These classes are offered in the summer.
